The brand manager from Brita contacted the Take Back The Filter campaign yesterday and gave us the word.

We can't reveal the details until Monday night. But I can say that their plan includes almost all of the things we asked for on our petition and during the campaign.

With the melting of the polar ice caps, countries around the world are finding that new shipping lanes are now opening up, and with that, areas that were previously off limits to exploration and drilling are now accessible. This Month in Mother Jones: Rescuing the Economy and Saving the Planet

mother jones nov08 imageThe March/April issue of Mother Jones set a high water-mark for coverage of clean energy. The latest issue, which includes contributions from Al Gore, Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph E. Stiglitz, Bill McKibben and Grist's David Roberts, does the same for climate change and the green economy; as they usually do, the editors of the magazine will slowly release its full contents online over the coming weeks, but that's no reason not to get the print version right now.

Ready for peak oil, anybody? The Financial Times has gotten hold of a draft of the International Energy Agency's annual report, which states that the rate of output decline is 9.1 per cent at the world's biggest oil fields. This is the first ever authoritative public study of oil reserves - most countries such as Saudi Arabia prefer to keep the data as well-kept state secrets.
