On of the primary pieces of advice dolled out to us when it comes to goal setting is to visualize the end result. We have to know what we're working towards if we are to design and implement a strong path. The same goes for a sustainable future.
What would it look like if we did everything right?
So many inefficient old fridges in America that need replacing, so much empty space that could be filled with monuments. We usually suggest recycling old fridges; artist Adam Jonas Horowitz and the Primordial Soup Company had another idea: Fridgehenge, built in 2003 near Santa Fe, New Mexico....
We have a vision for the Southwest that involves solar panels and windmills -- a future of clean-energy generation and green jobs, not the smokestacks, pollution, and health problems that accompany a coal-fired power plant. However, that vision got a bit hazy recently when the U.S. EPA issued an air quality permit for construction of the Desert Rock Energy Facility, yet another massive coal-fired power plant on Navajo land in northwest New Mexico.

About nine months ago we reported on a portable nuclear power generator made by Hyperion Power Generation which we dubbed a “nuclear hot tub” because of it’s size. We weren’t overly keen on the idea and comments ranged from incredulous to defensive.
Design is evolving, but according to “Garbage Warrior” (2008), a timely documentary on unconventional architect Michael Reynolds and his so-called “earthships”, it’s not evolving fast enough. Partly, it’s because the “powers that be” are afraid of making mistakes, of learning how to live sustainably through trial and error.
