Bush Government Sues To Make Testing Meat Illegal

In most free countries, the Government and its agencies try to raise standards and make food healthier. Not in America. Creekstone Farms wanted to test every one of their cows for mad cow disease, to satisfy demand from overseas customers.

Except that they are not allowed to; the USDA guidelines only test 1% of cows. Creekstone went to court for the right to test all of their cows and won at a lower level, but the Bush Administration is appealing it, saying that "more widespread testing does not guarantee food safety and could result in a false positive that scares consumers."

PETA’s Meat: Worst. Meat. Evar?

This time, they are not doing one of their usual stunts. Interestingly, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have announced an ambitious competition and prize, with a deadline to make even the brightest scientist prepare for a lot of long nights: one million dollars for anyone who can grow meat in a test tube by 2012.

The reward will be issued to any scientist who can get in-vitro chicken on the market at a competitive price in 10 U.S. states, marking a desire to see a practical policy application, as well as the innovation itself.

World Record: Uruguayan Army Grills 12 Tons of Beef

Nearly 20,000 spectators were on hand to watch 1,250 volunteers grill twelve metric tons of beef in Montevideo Sunday.

Using a grill that was reportedly 1.5 km long, Uruguay set a new world record for “world’s biggest barbecue” while raising awareness of the tiny country’s top export.

Uruguay, a small South American nation north of Argentina, easily beat the previous record of four tons, held by Mexico in 2006.
