Going ‘green’ is more than a mere fad in the hotel industry. The San Francisco based Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants began implementing environmental initiatives in 1985. Twenty years later Kimpton created EarthCare, which has over 40 eco-friendly practices, including energy and water conservation. In 2006 Kimpton earned the National GeoTourism Award given by National Geographic Traveler and the Travel Industry Association of America. The state of California acknowledged Kimpton’s efforts.
We have shown a few instant hotel room ideas before; they are big in Europe where there are a lot of festivals and a lot of people with a lot of money who need something better than a tent. Albimo squeezes a lot of stuff into 12 Sqm, (130 SF) including a bathroom with toilet and shower, thermal and acoustic insulation, individual heating and air conditioning. It is an interesting idea- why build an entire hotel for a big event when you can just move it around? ...
And this is where I’ll stay when I get to Veracruz….

Scandinavia's Scandic Hotel chain wasn't even featured in a recent New York Times review of hip hotels attempting to reduce their eco-impact, yet Scandic has gone far beyond encouraging guests to forgo sheet-washing and towel changing. By switching to renewable energy, sorting all trash and eschewing all individual packaging (both for guests and in operations) the chain managed to reduce CO2 levels 30 percent compared to 1996 baselines.
