We've talked about plastic bags fusing before as a way to keep polyethylene bags going, and even pointed you to a tutorial to DIY, but so far we hadn't seen the material applied to footwear and in such an elegant way.
These boots are the work of Chilean industrial design student Camila Labra, and made mostly of recycled plastic bags. Keep reading to find out about the process, prices and more models....

Okay. I’m on the fence about this, so I’m opening it up to you all. Are these rechargeable foot warmers a clever way to keep yourself toasty without turning up the thermostat, and therefore keeping your carbon footprint small (har. har.)? Or, are they just another piece of junk in the long list of “Things We Don’t Need”?

Anyone who’s into the ‘green lifestyle’ knows that walking is one of the most environmentally-friendly modes of transportation around. Really, there are only two things keeping it from being an entirely eco-friendly exercise: the shoes on your feet. Most modern shoes are made using PVC, nylon, leather, and other non-sustainable materials. Considering most active people should replace their shoes every six months, that adds up to quite a lot of elements going to waste.

Last month we kinda roused on END Footwear for making their stripped down eco-focused trail running footwear, and not telling anyone about it. With the launch of their new website last week they’ve cleared that obstacle on the path.
Leather is a very contentious material. Certainly whenever we mention it here, we are inundated with emotional responses from readers. Leather has been a integral element of human history from at least 2,000 BC. But, even setting aside issues of animal welfare, it has not been the greenest of industries, as this report on the leather production process in Pakistan clearly indicates.
End Outdoor (eco-inspired trail running shoes) went off and became END Footwear. Since our extended interview with Ben Finklea of END or Environmentally Neutral Design, the company has undergone a name change as well as launching an online social networking presence, including Twitter, FaceBook, MySpace and You Tube. But it’s early days, so there is not much to see as yet.
