The Egyptian Hospital in Bagram

Jessyz tagged the following post as inspirations on her blog Chocolate Mints in a Jar:

Al Ahram printed this article today, on the Egyptian Hospital in Bagram, Afghanistan.  It is a small millitary hospital in Bagram which treats Afghan patients for free, providing artificial limbs and performing opthalmology operations.  Led by Ahmed Ashry, the hospital has grown from seeing 100 patients a day to seeing and treating whoever walks in.  This is a beautiful story of what Egyptians can actually do.

Egypt: Blogger Blocks Nawara's Blog

It seems that it is not only third world regimes who block people's blogs. Apparently, Google's Blogspot has decided to join the bandwagon, and has blocked Nawara Negm's Blog (Tahyees [Ar]), without specifying any reasons. And Ahmed Shokeir writes here about the incident:

Rim Banna - A Voice from Palestine

Clueless came across Rim Banna's work recently and she was moved beyond the words on her blog:

I am glad that I got introduced to that great voice .. I am grateful to that friend who gave me the chance to listen to those great lyrics composed and arranged in so beautiful tunes.

Rim Banna; I only got to know about her weeks back when I knew about her performing for first time here in Cairo. I marked my calendar and wanted to make sure I reserve my seat there!

Egypt: Lawsuit calling for the devalidation of 25,000 Muslim Hadiths

Bent Masreya wrote:

I found out the way most Egyptians find things out that there is a lawsuit against Al Azhar calling for devalidating 25,000 Muslim Hadiths. The idea reminded me of the saying that wonders why words should be taken to court?

The Egyptian blogger goes on to question the idea

Al Ghadd Party - Another fire in Egypt

Al Ghad, Ayman Nour's Party headquarters burnt down one day before their general assembly. According to blog reports, thugs burnt down the building and hampered firemen's efforts to put the fire out.

In addition to losing their headquarters, the political party also lost 20 of its members - who were rounded up and arrested instead of the thugs.

Egypt: Sexual Harassment Victim Stabbed to Death

I received an invitation to join a group named “Dr. Shaimaa Fouad … May you rest in Peace.” I did not know her and I wondered why anyone would invite me to such a group. Little did I know! Dr. Shaimaa Fouad died defending herself.

The Middle East's Generation Facebook

What will the Middle East look like 25 years from now? That was the assignment the World Policy Journal gave Mona El Tahawy for their 25th anniversary edition. Mona decided to have some fun and imagination. This is what she came up with, mixing real people in imaginary scenarios in 2033. Who knows? They might come true!

Egypt: Activist's Flickr Account Censored

Egyptian activists are screaming foul after Flickr resorted to ‘censoring' their accounts on the photo sharing network.

Journalist, blogger and activist Hossam El Hamalawy writes:

“I had noticed that some of my recent pix from Ireland, that included the Palestine and the Republican murals were not viewable to the public unless they were signed in. I emailed the Flickr Gods. They were kind enough to respond back quickly and un-flag some of the pix, putting them on “safe” mode, but without giving me an explanation why they were flagged in the first place.
The only reason I can think of is an editorial anti-Palestinian bias”
