We didn’t hear it in the debates. We didn’t hear it on the campaign trail. And we didn’t hear anything about mass transit outlined anywhere in the economic bailout. It is difficult to recall anytime during the recent and ongoing economic struggle any mention of any economic stimulus for public transportation that would greatly lessen Americans' 2nd largest expense after housing....

Transit Stop Design Delivers Message In A Bottle

Yvette Hurt of Art in Motion in Lexington, Kentucky, notes that a Federal study concluded that more people used public transit systems that incorporated art. So they held a competition to design an arty bus shelter, which was won by Aaron Scales of McKay Snyder Architects, a local firm.

It is made of bottles of a local favourite beer ginger ale called Ale 8 One, donated by the brewery. “I'm from Kentucky, and Ale 8 One is something I've kind of grown up with,” said Scales, an architectural intern at McKay Snyder, who was a senior at the University of Kentucky when the shelter design was done.

Avoid Interaction With Other Humans in New Train Design

I really don't want to get into another flame war over the idea of Personal Rapid Transit; my ears are still burning from the abuse I received from my last post. But I still don't get the obsession that public transit is too , well, PUBLIC, and that so much time and energy is being spent on systems that cost more and carry fewer people, just so there is no chance of sitting next to someone NOKD.

The Israeli Knesset, perhaps the most hyperactive spot in this more-wired-than-most country, may have caught on a bit late, but it appears that the green wave washing over the country has finally reached the benches of Israel’s parliament.

Maybe it was the teetering of the governing coalition or the multi-year water crisis, or maybe it was just the sticky and oppressive summer heat. Whatever the cause, the summer session of the Knesset closed last week with an unprecedented burst of environmental legislation.
