Michael Cannell—former editor of the New York Times House & Home section and more recently director of online content for Dwell—has started his own network of design sites.
“Nothing kick-starts discussion like matters of taste. Don’t believe us? Ask friends if they like, say, a particular European range, a high-end vacuum, or a new prefab home and watch them go off. Design Vote is a trio of sites where people can express their opinion daily by giving design objects the thumbs up or thumbs down. The votes are tallied in real time for all to see.”

Eco Framing is the first custom picture framing studio dedicated to “green” best practices. They feature sustainable woods, bamboo moulding, advanced recycling and a reinvented supply chain that dramatically reduces the carbon footprint of our work. They offer top quality, museum-grade work at lower prices with faster turnaround. Some of their feature products include variable content display systems (FlexFrame) that enable on-demand swap out of graphics, and a line of P3 ceramic steel magnetic boards. I like.

The Kiss Vase goes together very nicely with the Eva Zeisel Candlesticks…

Interesting company: Cph Square was founded in 1999 by the two brothers Martin and Flemming Madsen in Copenhagen. ‘The idea was to re-event the kitchen as a piece of furniture’. They’ve now got a showroom in London, as well (none in the States, yet). They do gorgeous kitchens and baths, and they also represent: Molo, Floor to Heaven, Kasthall, De La Espada, Autobahn, Flos, Pallucco, Flexform,Tom Dixon, Unique Interiør, Vola, Blanco, Unidrain, Gaggenau, Desalto, Mirage, Mosa, Gutmann, Durat, Sunnin, Casanni, Established & Sons and Gateway to Japan.

Located in Colina, Chile. I like the use of bamboo poles for the porch roof screen, and the simplicity of the concrete pier footings.

A solo exhibition of recent mixed media pieces titled Roadside Distractions by Eric Engstrom will run from August 22nd through September 21st 2008 at ArtBrokers Gallery. Featuring new views from America’s secondary roads, the exhibition references commonplace vernacular buildings and ordinary landscapes converted to emphasize the extraordinary beauty in the details and images. Eric relives the classic American road trip and preserves moments in time through his images.

Architect Tom Hardy has created an online exhibit of some of his collection of classic drafting implements. Quite a nostalgic trip for the more senior drafters among us.

How good is that? I found every single lead holder I’ve ever owned going back to my dad’s hand-me-downs from 1978.
